Ondo govt to partner GLO on digital transformation

By Precious Oluwole

Ondo State Governor, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has expressed the State government’s readiness to collaborate with Globacom Nigeria (Glo) to drive digital innovation, improve governance, and boost socio-economic development across the state.

The Governor gave the assurance while hosting a delegation from the telecommunication, highlighting the importance of technology in enhancing service delivery.

He commended Glo for its role in revolutionizing Nigeria’s telecom industry, recalling its pioneering contributions such as per-second billing and more affordable SIM cards that made mobile connectivity accessible to millions.

Governor Aiyedatiwa noted that Ondo State, now ranked second nationally in connectivity coverage after Lagos, was well positioned to harness Glo’s solutions in areas including surveillance technology, e-learning, remote work, online payment, and car tracking.

He also stressed that his administration had begun deploying homegrown digital solutions to improve governance. He cited the launch of iOndo, an electronic tax collection platform introduced three months ago, which allows residents to conveniently pay ground rents and other taxes online. According to him, adopting new technologies would reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, increase efficiency, and limit human interference in government processes.

While appreciating the telecommunication for choosing Ondo State, he said “We are ready to partner with Glo in these areas. Technology-driven governance is the way forward, and with strong connectivity, we can enhance productivity, efficiency, and transparency”.

Earlier, the Group Lead, Enterprise Business, Mr Adeniyi Odejobi who led the team to the visit, commended the governor’s implementation of “Our Ease” agenda.

The areas of proposed partnership included; dedicated Internet access for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), deployment of a learning management system with free data access for students, digital tax platforms, surveillance and traffic management systems, car tracking solutions, and seamless communication channels for civil servants.
