Ondo NURTW Chairman denies role in attack on APC Chair, others

The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Ondo State, Comrade Odudu Emmanuel Ademola, on Wednesday dismissed allegations linking him to the attack on the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Ade Adetimehin, and other stakeholders at the party secretariat in Akure.

Odudu, who spoke through a statement issued by the union’s media office, described the allegation that he masterminded the disruption of the APC stakeholders’ meeting held on February 17 as “false, misleading and a complete fabrication.”

The NURTW boss said he attended the meeting strictly as a party stakeholder and met a tense situation in which supporters of some aspirants were engaged in heated arguments, stressing that the crisis was purely an internal party matter and not related to the transport union.

He maintained that neither he nor any officer or member of the union was involved in the fracas, adding that he instead intervened in an attempt to restore calm before the arrival of security operatives.

According to him, personnel of the police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Services later took control of the situation and prevented further breakdown of law and order.

Odudu condemned the attack on Adetimehin and other party leaders, describing the incident as unacceptable and urging those spreading unverified claims to exercise restraint.

He also called for thorough investigation of sensitive allegations before dissemination to the public, warning that misinformation could inflame tensions and mislead residents.
