Ondo police arrest suspect after firecracker sparks panic in Owo

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the command said operatives immediately launched an investigation following distress calls from members of the public.

Preliminary findings revealed that the noise, initially mistaken for an explosion, was caused by a firecracker allegedly purchased from a nearby supermarket.

The arrested suspect, identified as Ayoola Daniel Ojumu, was said to have confessed to his role in the incident. However, his accomplice, who reportedly ignited the firecracker, is still on the run.

The police assured that efforts are underway to track him down.

The command thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his support in boosting security operations across the state.

It also urged parents and guardians to monitor their children and wards, especially as the festive season approaches, warning that acts capable of causing public panic would be met with stiff sanctions.

Police authorities added that the suspect in custody would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Residents were encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious behaviour to security agencies.
