The Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Biyi Poroye, has reiterated the commission’s resolve to promote transparency, inclusive growth and people-centred development in oil-producing communities of the state.
Poroye spoke during a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters in Akure, where he presented a scorecard of OSOPADEC’s activities and achievements over the last six months.
Describing the media as a critical pillar of democracy, the OSOPADEC chairman praised journalists for their role in keeping the public informed, demanding accountability and strengthening confidence in governance.
He said the briefing was organised to give residents, particularly those in oil-producing areas, a clear picture of the commission’s stewardship and the impact of its interventions.
According to him, “The 10th Board, under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has prioritized institutional stability and trust.
“Notable achievements include resolving a long-standing litigation with Coastville Global Resources, completing the General Hospital at Agadagba-Obon, and renovating 21 public schools across Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Areas.
“OSOPADEC has also made strides in education, healthcare, and infrastructure development, including the construction of roads, installation of transformers, and provision of scholarships and bursaries to students.
“The commission has strengthened its institutional capacity through staff promotions, training programs, and enhanced welfare packages.
Poroye also stressed the commission’s commitment to accountability, effective oversight and environmental sustainability, noting that plans were underway for shoreline protection and land reclamation in vulnerable coastal communities.
He assured that OSOPADEC would remain focused on executing projects that deliver tangible benefits and improve the quality of life of people in Ondo State’s oil-producing areas.
