Otetubi Becomes 30th ICAN Chairman

On Thursday, the ICAN House was filled with an atmosphere of celebration as Hon. Idowu Otetubi was inaugurated as the 30th Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Akure and District Society.

Hon. Otetubi, who previously served as the State Commissioner for Natural Resources during the tenure of the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, is also the Zonal Chairman for the Western Zone of ICAN. He will lead the institute for the next year.

In her welcome address, Mrs. Jumoke Olowolayemo, Chairman of the investiture planning committee, congratulated Otetubi and the other executive members on their investiture. She wished them a successful tenure and urged the executive members to cooperate with Otetubi for the association’s progress.

Mr. Bunmi Alade, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, who chaired the occasion, also congratulated the new chairman and his team. He encouraged them to ensure inclusive administration and expressed confidence in Otetubi’s ability to elevate the institute’s standards of excellence.

Guest speaker Mr. Akintunde Omomofe, in his lecture, emphasized the need for a shift from a service-driven economy to a more productive one, with agriculture and industrialization as the foundations at the subnational level. Speaking on the investiture’s theme, “Re-Imaging Public Expenditure Pattern in Sub-National for a Resilient Economy and Sustainable Development: The Role of Professionals,” Omomofe highlighted the importance of reducing governance costs through technology-driven public sector operations. He also noted the significant role professional associations like ICAN can play in engaging the government and promoting policy changes.

Expressing his gratitude, the newly inaugurated Chairman, Hon. Idowu Otetubi, thanked God for the successful event and promised to make a meaningful impact during his tenure. His administration’s focus areas include purchasing a bus for the district, advancing the ICAN building project, increasing membership, and implementing youth engagement programs.

Otetubi also expressed his appreciation to past chairmen, the planning committee, his friends, family, and all members, urging their cooperation to elevate the institute.

In a conversation with the press, Hon. Alasoadura expressed confidence in the new leadership and urged members to support Otetubi. Akogun Olatomide Omole also commended the new chairman, stating that Otetubi’s extensive experience will benefit Akure ICAN and its districts.

Other executive members include Ezekiel Oke as Vice Chairman, Erastus Omotosho as General Secretary, Oyeniyi Johnson as Treasurer, Felix Adewole as Technical Secretary, Blessing Akinseye as Chairperson of the Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN), Bidemi Kolawole as Financial Secretary, Stella Maris Ajayi as Assistant Secretary, Oniye Oluremi Olajumoke as Public Relations Officer, Atibioke Adeoye as Ex-Officio 1, and Akinyemi Ogundare as Ex-Officio 2.
