All arrangements have been concluded for the 55th Inaugural Lecture of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA), with Professor Isaac Ayodele Ololade of the Department of Chemical Sciences set to take the podium.
Professor Ololade, a distinguished scholar in Environmental Chemistry, will present a lecture titled “Environmental Chemistry: The Science Behind a Healthier Planet” on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the University Multipurpose Hall.
The lecture is expected to provide deep insights into the scientific foundations of environmental sustainability and humanity’s interaction with the natural world.
According to a statement by the Chairman of the University Ceremonies Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adebisi Daramola, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige, will preside over the event as Chairman of the occasion.
The programme is scheduled to commence at 2:00 p.m., with guests expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m.
Professor Ololade began his academic career with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Industrial Chemistry from University of Ibadan in 1998, followed by a Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry from the same institution in 2001.
He earned his PhD in Environmental Chemistry from Federal University of Technology, Akure in 2008. In 2011, he completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Environmental Chemistry at the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He joined AAUA in 2001 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2017. Over the years, he has contributed significantly to teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, mentoring, and academic advisory services.
Beyond classroom and research engagements, Professor Ololade has held several key administrative positions within the university, including Dean and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Science, Director of the University Central Research Laboratory, Acting Head of the Department of Chemical Sciences, Sub-Dean of the Faculty, and Chairman of various academic committees.
A prolific researcher, he has authored 96 peer-reviewed articles in reputable local and international journals and has presented scholarly papers at conferences across Nigeria and countries such as China, Egypt, Italy, Kenya, and the United Kingdom. Several of his research works are currently under review, while others are ongoing.
His academic excellence has earned him numerous grants and recognitions, including the TETFund Institution-Based Research Intervention Fund (2016), International Foundation for Science Research Grants (2012 and 2016), AAUA Research Grant Award (2012), the Chinese Academy of Sciences–Third World Academy of Sciences Postdoctoral Fellowship (2010), and the Education Tax Fund Staff Training and Development Award (2004).
He also received a travel grant from the Pan-Africa Network and the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2012, as well as a certificate of appreciation for his role in the Second Euro-Mediterranean Conference for Environmental Integration.
Professor Ololade is a member of the Chemical Society of Nigeria and the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
The forthcoming lecture is expected to further enrich AAUA’s tradition of promoting scholarly excellence and advancing cutting-edge research.
