The Shippers Association Lagos State (SALS) has resumed full activities following a Federal High Court ruling that dismissed a suit filed by former association president Evangelist Leo Ogamba.
The case, which had stalled SALS’s planned elections since September 2024, was thrown out last Friday, August 8, 2025. Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa of the Federal High Court, Lagos, ruled that Ogamba lacked legal standing to challenge the association’s election.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos, the association’s legal counsel, Chief Osuala E. Nwagbara, confirmed the ruling, stating that Ogamba’s claims were invalid because the company he relied on, Leochuks Nigeria Limited, was not a member of SALS.
“The court held that his right to challenge any decision of SALS is derived from the rights of a corporate member. Since the company he used was not a member of the association, he lacked locus standi. No court can indulge a person who is not a member of an association to interfere in its affairs,” Chief Nwagbara said.
The court’s decision effectively cleared the way for SALS to hold its long-delayed election and restore normal operations, which had been disrupted by the injunction filed by the former president.
With the legal hurdle removed, SALS officials have expressed optimism about moving forward with the association’s activities and strengthening its governance, marking a new chapter for the organization.
