The Sea Empowerment and Research Center (SEREC) has urged women in the maritime sector to actively collaborate in fostering a more inclusive and diverse industry. The call was made by SEREC’s Coordinator, Dr. Eugene Nweke, in a statement advocating for policies that support women’s empowerment.

Dr. Nweke emphasized the importance of unity among women in the field, encouraging them to celebrate each other’s achievements and provide mutual support in their pursuit of excellence. He highlighted that true progress requires a collective effort to break down barriers and create opportunities for women in the traditionally male-dominated maritime industry.

In a statement released by SEREC, Dr. Nweke reflected on the contributions of women in maritime, acknowledging their dedication, expertise, and perseverance. He noted that by mentoring and supporting one another, women have already driven significant positive change, leading to greater innovation and inclusivity in the sector.

As part of its commitment to gender inclusivity, SEREC reaffirmed its dedication to empowering the next generation of women in maritime. The organization pledged to challenge biases, push for fair policies, and develop programs that promote career growth and leadership opportunities for women.

Dr. Nweke also urged women in the industry to establish a strong mentorship and succession program to address the potential age gap in the workforce over the next decade. He concluded by celebrating the resilience and pioneering spirit of women in maritime, emphasizing that their contributions continue to inspire progress in the sector.
