Shippers’ Council backs National Single Window ahead March 27 rollout

By Joy Enamuna

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council has expressed support for the Federal Government’s National Single Window platform ahead of its scheduled launch on March 27, 2026, describing the initiative as a major step toward improving efficiency and ease of doing business at the nation’s seaports.

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Dr Akutah Pius, stated that the platform would enhance transparency and streamline port operations once fully operational.

He said the project is expected to tackle persistent operational bottlenecks caused by the activities of multiple government agencies operating independently within the port system.

According to him, the National Single Window would promote coordination among stakeholders by integrating port procedures into a single digital platform, thereby reducing delays and improving service delivery.

Akutah disclosed this during a meeting convened by the House of Representatives Committee on Shipping Services and Related Matters, chaired by Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki.

He noted that the Council, in its capacity as the nation’s port economic regulator, had already played a key role in strengthening operational standards and restoring order across the maritime sector.

Speaking at the meeting, Dasuki stressed the need for wider stakeholder consultations to ensure inclusiveness in the implementation process, adding that the success of the initiative holds significant implications for Nigeria’s economy.
