Son of Late Ondo SDP guber candidate alleges foul play, calls for justice

The first son of late Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, a prominent businessman and 2023 SDP governorship candidate in Ondo State, has raised alarm over what he described as suspicious circumstances surrounding his father’s death.

Samuel Akingboye said he became concerned after inconsistencies emerged in accounts from family members regarding the events leading to his father’s passing.

“Upon arriving at the hospital, the condition of his body contradicted the account given about his death. The physical injuries observed on his body differed sharply from the explanation presented to me,” he stated.

He alleged that shortly after the incident, large sums of money were moved from his father’s company account to accounts linked to his stepmother and stepbrother, while valuables and important documents were removed from the family residence.

He said the police investigation, initially handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, was later transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Surulere.

Akingboye described the move as “deeply troubling and illogical,” noting that the autopsy report and other findings had still not been shared with him despite repeated follow-ups.

Akingboye further alleged that his stepmother and her children were attempting to move or access his father’s assets, including vehicles and property, while the investigation was ongoing.

Appealing for intervention, Akingboye called on the Inspector General of Police and Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to ensure transparency and protection.
