In a renewed effort to support widows and promote women’s empowerment across Ondo State, the OyinAroloye Gender Empowerment Initiative has announced a comprehensive training and empowerment programme targeted at widows in the state’s 18 local government areas.
The programme, scheduled to hold on August 14, 2025, at CITA Hall, Alagbaka, Akure, is designed to equip widows with life-changing skills, financial support, and networking opportunities, thereby enhancing their socio-economic standing and reducing dependency.
Speaking ahead of the event, Hon. Oyinkansola Aroloye, founder of the initiative and Special Assistant to the Governor on Mobilisation, emphasized that the programme aligns with the vision of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to uplift women through inclusive empowerment strategies.
“You are not a liability,” Hon. Aroloye said in a statement addressed to widows. “This initiative is not just about assistance; it’s about restoring dignity, providing opportunity, and affirming that widows can thrive and contribute meaningfully to their communities.”
The initiative will feature skills acquisition training, financial empowerment, capacity-building sessions, and mentorship opportunities, all aimed at helping widows become self-reliant and economically active.
Hon. Aroloye noted that the programme seeks to address both urban and rural challenges facing widows, particularly in areas with limited access to social support.
She further called on government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector to partner with the initiative to expand its reach.
“Our mission is to drive inclusive development by empowering vulnerable groups. Rural empowerment must be at the heart of every development agenda,” she stated.
The event is expected to draw stakeholders from across the state, including community leaders, development partners, and representatives from women-focused organizations.
