Chief (Dr.) Yeye Afolashade Shona Aluko represents a rare blend of academic dedication, entrepreneurial excellence and humanitarian commitment. Over the years, she has distinguished herself as a transformative figure in Nigeria’s education sector while building successful business ventures that continue to impact communities.
Born in Kaduna, her educational journey began at Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin, before proceeding to the Federal College of Education, Kabuga in Kano. She later earned a degree in Education Management from Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University.
Her early career as a teacher shaped her philosophy of discipline, mentorship and excellence. Determined to improve the quality of early childhood education, she ventured into the supply of educational aids and playground equipment, eventually founding DLA Children Playground Equipment and Toys Limited.
For over two decades, the company has partnered with key government education bodies, including the Universal Basic Education Commission and various State Universal Basic Education Boards, to supply schools with safe and stimulating learning tools.
Beyond business, Aluko has remained deeply committed to philanthropy. She devotes significant time to mentoring women and young people, offering scholarships to deserving students and supporting initiatives that uplift the less privileged.
Her contributions have attracted numerous recognitions, including awards from professional organizations, educational institutions and humanitarian groups.
In 2025, the Ooni of Ile-Ife honoured her with the chieftaincy title Yeye Bobajiro Oodua, further cementing her standing as a respected community leader.
