Youth empowerment takes spotlight at Akoko summit

The Akoko Youth Forum, the umbrella body for youths across the four local government areas of Akoko in Ondo State, has empowered 40 members during its annual youth summit.

The summit, themed “Advancing Youth Development Through Innovation and Leadership,” was held on Saturday in Ugbe Akoko and brought together participants from various Akoko communities.

In his opening remarks, the forum’s president, Akeju Blessing James, commended members for their resilience and commitment.

He described the empowerment initiative as a milestone in the group’s history, promising continued support from the national executives.

“Today represents an historic moment. We are changing the lives of 40 young persons in Akoko by empowering them to build a future for themselves,” he said.

The chairman of the planning committee, represented by his deputy, Prince Ademuwagun, stressed the need for unity among the Akoko people, noting that collective effort was crucial for regional progress.

One of the guest speakers, Dr. Bayo, Director of IPTP at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba (AAUA), linked the call for the creation of Ose State to the oneness of Akoko, which he said would be a dominant factor in such an initiative.

Also speaking at the event, Hon. Mutiu Olawale Mohammed, Chairman of Akoko North-East Local Government, praised the forum for investing in youth empowerment, aligning it with his vision to see young people thrive in society.

The summit was graced by dignitaries, including His Imperial Majesty, Oba Moforunso Samuel Arasanyin, Arole Agba I Okeladeokin, the Ajana of Afa Okeagbe Akoko, represented by Chief Fiwajoye of Afa Okeagbe; representatives of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF); and other stakeholders.
