By: Precious Oluwole

The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Bamidele Oleyelogun, has said that the 2023 budget presented by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu would accelerate development in the State.

This was just as Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the State began budget defense yesterday.

While declaring the budget defense open at the Assembly complex, the speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun stated that the event was a very significant one because it deals with an important aspect of Legislation upon which all Government actions and activities depend.

The speaker who was represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Samuel Aderoboye, stressed that the 2023 Budget, christened “Budget of Shared Prosperity”, presented by Governor Akeredolu is geared towards further consolidation of numerous on-going programmes/projects of the present administration. The rationale behind this is to further accelerate the pace of socio-economic transformation, improve security network and development of our dear State to enviable height which Mr. Governor envisions as well as collaborate with local and foreign donor Agencies, development
partners and to continually identify with the Federal Government under the able leadership of President Muhammodu Buhari (GCFR).

“It is our expectation at this end, as an arm of Government (the Legislature) that all stakeholders will co-operate maximally with the State Government towards achieving this great goal aimed at improving the lives of the people at the end of the day”.

He commended the honorable Members of House for their efforts in the outgoing year 2022, especially, in the areas of oversight activities which has provided a good template to review the Budget performance of MDAs, and provided insight into both ahievements and challenges that characterized the activities of Government in this Fiscal year.

“It is our belief that Budget performance in the next fiscal year shall also be more appreciable, especially when the budgeting is made very realistic.

Oleyelogun advised every MDA to justify its proposals beyond all doubt, for any approval to be given”.

Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman, House Committee on finance and appropriation, Hon. Akintomide Akinrogunde noted that the proposal was thoroughly debated on the floor of the House after which it was committed to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation so as to scrutinize the provisions contained therein for the betterment of the citizen of Ondo State.

“It is another opportunity to painstainkingly review the proposal putting into cognizance
the limited available resources and economic realities rather than mere increase or reduction in the revenue and expenditure components. I therefore crave the indulgence of all MDAs to cooperate with us in this
regard and pursue the general interest of the State rather than personal interest. With this inview, we will have a realistic and dependable working tool”.

“The Budget for the year 2022 financial year is one of its kind in the anals of Ondo State as the capital expenditure is above the recurrent. This, no doubt is a signal of Mr. Governor’s commitment towards infrastructural development in the State, the importance of which cannot be undermined. I therefore commend the passion and efforts of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredulu, SAN, CON, in making Ondo State an Eldorado”.

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Pastor Emmanuel Igbasan, in his good will messge stated that having consulted widely with stakeholders in crafting the 2023 budget, government is determined to do more through the REDEEMED AGENDA of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

He stressed that if the budget is approved, the people of Ondo State will experience another level of prosperity.
