MARAN set for grand reception as maritime stakeholders rally support for ex-leaders

The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) says preparations are in top gear for a special reception in honour of its past presidents, in what it describes as a landmark celebration of leadership and service within the maritime media space.

The association disclosed that planning for the event has reached an advanced stage, following weeks of consultations and engagements with key stakeholders across Nigeria’s maritime industry.

According to MARAN, the forthcoming ceremony has already attracted strong interest and positive responses from players in the sector, including regulators, terminal operators, shipping firms, freight forwarders, and government institutions.

The event is expected to bring together major stakeholders in the maritime ecosystem, with a focus on recognising former leaders of the association while also strengthening collaboration between maritime journalists and industry operators.

Chairman of the MARAN Caretaker Committee, Tunde Ayodele, said the reception would provide an opportunity to reflect on the contributions of past presidents who, according to him, helped build the association into a respected voice in the industry.

He added that the gathering would also help deepen engagement between the media and stakeholders, especially at a time when Nigeria’s maritime sector is undergoing reforms and modernisation efforts.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr Funso Olojo, said top government officials, including representatives of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and heads of key maritime agencies, have indicated interest in attending the event.

Olojo noted that corporate organisations and industry groups have also expressed support for the initiative, describing it as a celebration of excellence and leadership within the maritime journalism community.

He said, “MARAN has, over the years, produced outstanding leaders who have contributed immensely to the growth of the association and the maritime beat. Many of them are excelling today in different fields, including the clergy, legal profession, media ownership, and public service. This reception is an opportunity to celebrate those achievements and their enduring legacy.”

The reception is scheduled to hold on April 24, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, and will feature award presentations, goodwill messages, and networking sessions aimed at strengthening ties among stakeholders in the maritime sector.

MARAN said it remains committed to promoting ethical journalism, professional development, and effective reporting of Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy sector, while urging stakeholders to support the event through participation and sponsorship.
