Ondo govt Approves 21 Road Projects, 2.38km Flyover, Finance House

The Ondo State Executive Council has approved the award of contracts for 21 road and infrastructure projects across the state, including a 2.8-kilometre flyover bridge in Akure, a 40-kilometre canalisation project in Ilaje Local Government Area and the construction of a new Ministry of Finance office complex.

The State Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr Abiola Olawoye, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held on June 2, 2026.

Olawoye said the council approved the construction of a 94-span flyover bridge from Adegbola Junction to St. Mathias/NNPC Filling Station in Alagbaka, Akure, spanning 2.8 kilometres.

According to him, the Executive Council also approved the canalisation of a 40-kilometre main canal from Ugbonla to Awoye, with a spur at Idi Ogba in Ilaje Local Government Area, as well as the construction of a 3,000-metre concrete walkway in Obenla and Idiogba communities.

“The council equally approved the construction of the Zion Pepe–Agerige Township Road in Ilaje Local Government Area, covering six kilometres, and the construction of the Agadagba–Ile Ikiri–Igaligbo Road, Bayo Philips Road, Araromi Seaside and selected roads in Igboegunrin Town, covering 6.7 kilometres,” Olawoye said.

He further disclosed that approval was granted for the construction of the 7.35-kilometre Irele–Sabomi–Igbotu Road traversing Irele and Ese Odo Local Government Areas, alongside selected roads in Irele Local Government Area under Phase Two, covering 5.94 kilometres.

Olawoye said the Executive Council also approved the construction of the 7.2-kilometre Okumo–Igodan Lisa Road off the Okitipupa–Igbokoda Road in Okitipupa Local Government Area; the 10-kilometre Oniparaga–Ago Alaye–Araromi Obu–Ayesan Road in Odigbo Local Government Area; selected roads in Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo Local Government Area covering 4.8 kilometres; and selected roads in Oba-Ile Housing Estate, Akure North Local Government Area, under Phase Two, spanning four kilometres.

He added that the council approved the construction of 5.3 kilometres of access and internal roads at the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences along Laje Road in Ondo West Local Government Area.

The commissioner said approval was also granted for the construction of Araromi Road in Ijare, Odo Ode–Odo Oja Road in Igbara Oke and selected roads in Ilara Mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area, covering five kilometres.

“The Executive Council also approved the construction of Sabo Orimolade Road, Akinkugbe Road, Esso Ebenezer Road, Yaba and other selected roads in Ondo West Local Government Area, spanning 5.4 kilometres, as well as the 6.4-kilometre MTD Roundabout–Olofin Grammar School Road with a spur to Technical College Road in Idanre Local Government Area,” he said.

Olawoye further disclosed that the council approved the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of the Ayedun–Akure/Owo Expressway and the construction of selected roads in Akure South Local Government Area, covering 6.55 kilometres.

He said the Executive Council equally approved the construction of the Holy Trinity–KOPEC Junction–Italurowo Road and other selected roads in Ondo East Local Government Area spanning five kilometres, as well as selected roads in Owo Local Government Area under Phase C, covering 6.9 kilometres.

According to him, approval was also granted for the construction of the five-kilometre Okela–NYSC Camp–Federal Technical College Road in Ikare Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area.

“In Akoko North-West Local Government Area, the council approved the construction of the Imo Arigidi–Agbaluku Road and the rehabilitation of the Arigidi–Oke Agbe Road, covering seven kilometres.

“The Executive Council also approved the construction of the 20-kilometre Oba–Ikun–Afo–Idoani Road traversing Ose and Akoko South-West Local Government Areas,” Olawoye stated.

The commissioner added that, in addition to the road and infrastructure projects, the council approved the construction of a new Ministry of Finance Office Complex, otherwise known as Finance House, in Alagbaka, Akure.
