AAUA professor Akinnawonu inducted into Nigeria Academy of Letters

A Professor of Epistemology, Critical Thinking and Philosophy of Science at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Benson Monehin Akinnawonu, has been inducted as a full member of the Nigeria Academy of Letters.

Akinnawonu, who is also the National President of the Philosophers Association of Nigeria, received the honour on Thursday, August 13, 2026, during the 28th convocation of the academy held at the J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium, University of Lagos.

The Nigeria Academy of Letters is the umbrella organisation for professional associations in Nigeria committed to advancing scholarship and intellectual development in the humanities.

The university don is an alumnus of the Galilee International Management Institute, Israel, and a member of the Intellect-Base International Consortium, United States.

At AAUA, Akinnawonu has held several academic and administrative positions, including Dean of the Postgraduate School, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Director of the Academic Planning Unit and a two-term membership of the university’s Governing Council.

Speaking on the recognition, Akinnawonu said his induction would provide an avenue to further promote the academic contributions of the university and enhance its visibility within the global scholarly community.

He said the new membership would also expose him to opportunities for high-level intellectual partnerships and collaborations with scholars within and outside Nigeria.

According to him, the recognition would further strengthen his commitment to research and contribute to shaping his intellectual pursuits in the humanities.
