The Ndigboamaka Progressive Markets Association and United Nigeria Airlines have partnered to organise the third edition of the Ndigboamaka Traders Cup, a football competition involving traders from major markets across Lagos State.
The tournament, tagged the United Nigeria Airlines Ndigboamaka Traders Cup 2026, will feature 12 teams that emerged from preliminary competitions involving 58 affiliated markets in the state.
Markets expected to feature in the six-week competition include Alaba International, Trade Fair Complex, Ladipo, Computer Village and Balogun, among others.
The organisers said the tournament was designed to promote unity, healthy living, youth engagement and peaceful coexistence among traders in the various markets.
Speaking on the initiative, the President of Ndigboamaka Progressive Markets Association, Chinedu Ukatu, said the competition would provide an avenue for traders and youths to interact beyond their commercial activities.
Ukatu described United Nigeria Airlines as a strategic partner in the initiative, saying the airline’s involvement demonstrated support for community development and the informal sector.
The Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of United Nigeria Airlines, Osita Okonkwo, said the airline identified with the entrepreneurial spirit of traders and viewed the tournament as an opportunity to promote unity through sports.
The competition, which has the theme, “Unity, Enterprise and Healthy Living,” will be played at selected centres in Lagos, with the final scheduled to take place in the state.
The Local Organising Committee has been constituted, while the fixtures, venues and draws will be unveiled at a forthcoming press conference.
