AIYEDATIWA: THE SILENT WINNING GOVERNOR

“In politics, noise wins the moment. Performance wins the memory. Legacy belongs to the record”.

In Nigerian politics, silence is often misunderstood. The politician who makes the loudest noises is considered strong. The one who dominates the headlines is considered active. The one who responds to every criticism is perceived as politically alert, while the one who chooses restraint is sometimes dismissed as lacking political firepower.

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is quietly challenging that assumption. His politics appears to belong to a different school – the politics of quietness: *a politics in which governance is allowed to compete with rhetoric, performance with propaganda, and results with political noise*. It may appear a dangerous strategy in an age of instant publicity, it can also be a powerful one because in the final analysis, while political noise expires, political records endure.

Aiyedatiwa is not the archetypal Nigerian politician who must have the last word in every issue. He does appear consumed by the necessity to answer every critic or turn every political disagreement and unnecessary “politiking” into a public spectacle. His approach is comparatively measured – he speaks only when he consideres it necessary. He acts when action is required. And increasingly, his administration seems willing to allow government programmes and interventions to tell their own story. The quieter the the announcement, the louder the impact becomes when the results reach the people.

For a pensioner receiving a long-awaited entitlement, a new road is not a press release. For a student gaining access to a better educational environment, government is not a slogan. For a motorist navigating improved infrastructure, a flyover is not merely a ceremonial project.
Government becomes real when it enters people’s daily lives. That is Aiyedatiwa’s silent strategy – *his quietness is a political discipline*
A governor who refuses to be dragged into every, mostly unnecessary political quarrels preserves something valuable – *authority of office*. Not every provocation deserves a response.
