Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has commissioned a one kilometre concrete walkway, flagged off the construction of an additional three kilometre walkway, and inaugurated a modern water supply scheme in Obe Nla, Ilaje Local Government Area, as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and living conditions in the state’s riverine communities.
Speaking during the ceremony, the governor said the projects reflected his administration’s commitment to equitable development under the OUR EASE Agenda, assuring residents that no community would be neglected.
Aiyedatiwa described the completed walkway as more than a physical structure, saying it symbolised renewed hope, improved safety, and expanded economic opportunities for residents who had endured years of using unsafe wooden walkways and navigating difficult terrain.
He noted that the intervention marked the beginning of broader development plans for the area, disclosing that the government intends to embark on land reclamation projects to provide lasting solutions to challenges confronting coastal settlements.
The governor also commissioned a rehabilitated water scheme comprising a restored borehole, a 50,000 litre elevated storage tank, a reticulation network, and a reverse osmosis water treatment plant designed to provide potable water for Obe Nla and neighbouring communities.
He highlighted several ongoing infrastructure projects across the state, including the 28.5 kilometre Aboto Atijere Road, the General Hospital at Agadagba Obon, the two million gallon per day water sedimentation tank at Aboto, the Molutehin Mini Water Scheme, the 8.5 kilometre dual carriageway from College Road to Okitipupa Junction through Irewole Roundabout, the Igbokoda Okitipupa Dual Carriageway, the Irele Sabomi Road, selected township roads in Irele, and the Zion Pepe Agerige Road.
The governor reiterated his administration’s determination to tackle coastal erosion, flooding, and sea incursion affecting Ayetoro and other vulnerable shoreline communities through sustained collaboration with the Federal Government, HITECH Construction Company, and development partners.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, said the commissioning fulfilled promises made to the people, adding that the commission remained focused on converting public resources into meaningful development across its mandate areas.
He listed completed projects executed by the commission to include the General Hospital at Agadagba Obon, the Igbotu Township Road, concrete walkways in Obe Nla, and landing walkways in Obe Rewoye, Obe Ogbaro, Obe Magbe, and Obe Lomore.
According to him, ongoing projects include the Sabomi Township Road, naval security posts with jetties at Atijere, Odun Oyinbo, Ebighan, and Apata, as well as additional concrete landing jetties across Ilaje and Ese Odo local government areas.
Poroye also disclosed that OSOPADEC would participate in the 2026 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) in Antalya, Türkiye, where it plans to establish an OSOPADEC Pavilion to showcase the environmental realities of Ondo State’s coastal communities and attract international support for climate resilience initiatives.
He further announced plans for the OSOPADEC International Conference on Climate Change scheduled for March 15 to 17, 2027, in Abuja, which will bring together government officials, investors, researchers, and development partners to discuss sustainable solutions to environmental challenges in the state’s coastal areas.
Also speaking, the Amapetu of Mahinland, Oba Oluwasegun Williams Akinyomi, expressed gratitude over the completion of the walkway project during his reign, describing it as a landmark achievement for the community.
The monarch urged residents of Ilaje Local Government Area to continue supporting the Aiyedatiwa administration, noting that the success of ongoing and future development projects depends on the cooperation of the people.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Ilaje Local Government, Morris Oripenaye, commended the governor for the developmental projects executed in the area and reaffirmed the council’s support for his administration.
Among dignitaries present at the event were the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Segun Omojuwa, Chief Olusola Oke (SAN), traditional rulers, members of the OSOPADEC Board and management, political leaders, and other stakeholders.
