Aiyedatiwa raises tertiary institutions’ subventions by 60%, approves fg/unions agreement

By Tolulope Eniola

The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved a 60 percent increase in the monthly subventions to all state-owned tertiary institutions in the state.

The governor also approved the immediate implementation of the agreement reached between the Federal Government and university unions across relevant state-owned tertiary institutions.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Monday, the two subventions are aimed at strengthening the institutions and improving the welfare of academic and non-academic staff.

Adeniyan said the increase in subventions would enable the institutions to meet their financial obligations, ensure prompt payment of salaries and improve the overall learning environment for students and staff.

He added that the implementation of the FG/Unions agreement was intended to address long-standing welfare concerns, boost staff morale and align the state-owned institutions with national standards.

Both approvals take immediate effect from August 2026.

Speaking on the development, Governor Aiyedatiwa urged the management of the affected institutions to ensure judicious use of the increased subventions, with priority given to staff welfare and academic excellence.

The governor also called on the unions to reciprocate the gesture by maintaining industrial harmony and focusing on the delivery of quality education to students.

Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Ondo State a hub for quality tertiary education, stressing that the government would continue to take bold steps to support its institutions.
