Ex-ODHA Speaker, Bolarinwa, Unfolds Plans as New Rotary President

Former Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Oluwasegunota Bolarinwa, has been installed and inaugurated as President of Rotary Club of Akure Metro at a glamorous and well-attended ceremony held in Akure.

Flanked by his wife, Mrs. Adefunmibi; the visibly elated former Speaker, who is now a Senior Lecturer in the Philosophy Department of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko; gathered friends and well-wishers from all walks of life to grace the event which came up on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

In his acceptance speech as President for the 2023/2024 Rotary Year, Rotn. (Dr.) Oluwasegunota Bolarinwa PHF, reeled out what he called his 10-point vision and mission. These are: sensitization programme on maternal and children health, public lecture on mental health, sensitization campaign against drug abuse, and scholarships for 10 indigent secondary school students.

Others are; skill empowerment training for fashion designers and purchase of sewing machines for the trainees, toilet project at Igunsin town, payment of polio plus and participation in campaigns to keep polio at zero level, provision of food items for the poor and needy, sponsorship of the projects of Rotaract Club of FUTA, financial supports for people with health issues, and renovation and extension of Rotary Club, Akure Metro Community House in Ilado, Alagbaka extension, Akure.

Speaking earlier, the outgoing President, Rotn. Olubunmi Falodun; had expressed happiness that he was handing-over to an accomplished individual who is sure to add value to the Rotary Club and take it to the next level. He itemized the achievements and challenges of his administration and prayed for the success of the incoming executives.

Delivering the Inauguration Lecture titled, Social Media: The Pros and Cons in Contemporary Nigeria, Chief A. A. Adeniyi SAN, said the social media has brought numerous advantages to the personal, business and even spiritual sectors of human lives, but that its usage is also fraught with dangers.

He listed the dangers to include phone addiction, online bullying, body image issues, spreading misinformation, negatively impact relationship, sleeplessness, increased stress, leakage of private information, cyber-crime, and facilitate laziness, among others.

The glamorous event was graced by the Royal Father of the Day, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye; former and serving lawmakers, academics, Rotarians from far and wide, and religious and traditional leaders from across the country.
