The Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Environment, Rt. Hon. Abimbola Fajolu, has advocated greater integration of environmental sustainability into the state’s development planning and budgeting processes.
Fajolu made the call during a strategic meeting with the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Laolu Akindolire, as part of efforts to strengthen environmental governance and ensure that environmental considerations are reflected in the state’s development agenda.
The meeting focused on mainstreaming environmental sustainability into government policies, programmes and projects, particularly in the areas of climate resilience, environmental protection, waste management, conservation, pollution control, green economy and sustainable urban development.
Fajolu stressed the need for economic growth and environmental protection to progress side by side, noting that sustainable development was essential to securing a cleaner, healthier and more resilient future for the people of Ondo State.
He also highlighted the importance of stronger collaboration among relevant government agencies, improved environmental data and the effective consideration of environmental priorities in the state’s budgeting and development processes.
The engagement further explored opportunities for closer cooperation between the environmental and budget planning sectors to ensure that sustainability considerations are adequately reflected in government programmes and projects.
Both officials expressed commitment to deepening inter-agency collaboration towards building a cleaner, greener and climate-resilient Ondo State while promoting sustainable economic growth.
