Hundreds of pupils and students from over 100 schools across Ondo State gathered at the Federal University of Technology, Akure for the Ondo Central qualifying round of KIDSCON 2026, a children-focused talent and academic development initiative.

The competition, held on Saturday, featured contests in academics, creativity and talent displays, with eight schools emerging successful to qualify for the grand finale scheduled for December.

At the end of the keenly contested event, Great Prints International School emerged winner in the secondary school category, while Fiwasaye Grammar School and Greater Tomorrow Secondary School came second and third respectively. Preston International College and St. Louis Grammar School also secured qualification tickets.

In the primary school category, Pathway Primary School claimed the top spot, followed by Lincoln Montessori School in second position, while Kinder School finished third to qualify for the final stage of the competition.

Speaking at the event, the Convener of KIDSCON, Funmi Bankole, said the initiative was designed to nurture talented children and promote moral values among young learners across the state.

“We are raising a generation of talented and morally sound leaders. KIDSCON is not just about competition; it is also about character building, confidence and social integration among children from different backgrounds,” she said.

Bankole commended the Minister of Interior, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, for supporting the initiative, noting that the intervention had helped expand the programme across senatorial districts and improve participation among schools.

Also speaking, the Principal of Fiwasaye Grammar School, Bolanle Ojoge, praised the organisers for sustaining the platform, saying the competition continued to encourage excellence, creativity and teamwork among students.
