The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria has concluded plans to honour its past presidents in recognition of their contributions to the growth of the association.

The decision, described as unprecedented in the maritime journalism sector, is aimed at appreciating former leaders whose efforts helped shape MARAN into a leading industry body.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Tunde Ayodele, and the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Funso Olojo.

According to the statement, the event is scheduled to hold on April 24, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, by 3:00 p.m.

Ayodele said friends, associates and well-wishers of the honourees had been invited to attend the ceremony and celebrate with the association.

He also disclosed that four deceased past presidents would be honoured posthumously, with their family members invited to receive the awards on their behalf.

The MARAN chairman noted that the initiative reflects the association’s commitment to recognising leadership, dedication and resilience that have strengthened its position in maritime journalism.

He added that the event also coincides with the recent appointment of a former president, Dr Bolaji Akinola, as Special Adviser on Communications to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, describing it as a source of pride for the association.
