The Ondo State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to strengthening the education sector through continuous teacher empowerment and innovative learning strategies aimed at advancing Smart School development in the State.

The Chairman, Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, made this known during a 3-day training programme organised for Smart School teachers on Localized E-Learning Content Development, the Use of Learning Management Systems (LMS), and the inauguration of the Smart School Digital Literacy and Coding Club. The event was held at the Smart School, Owo, in Owo Local Government Area of the State.

The training programme was designed to equip teachers with the tools and knowledge needed to deliver engaging, flexible, and inclusive instruction that meets the diverse needs of learners, while also inspiring students to think beyond traditional classroom boundaries.

The Chairman, who was represented at the training by the Full-Time Member I, Princess Olufunmilayo Ademulegun-Brown, emphasized that the initiative is not a one-off event, but part of an annual commitment to the continuous improvement and excellence of Smart Schools in Ondo State.

He noted that the training is structured to empower teachers, enhance their pedagogical skills, and foster a culture of innovation within the education system.

According to him, “These initiatives provide our teachers with the tools and knowledge to deliver engaging, flexible, and inclusive instruction that meets the diverse needs of our learners, while also inspiring them to think beyond traditional classroom boundaries.”

He, therefore, commended the State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and other stakeholders, including the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), for their invaluable contributions toward uplifting the standard of education in the State.
The SUBEB Chairman urged all participants to maximize the opportunity by actively engaging in discussions, asking questions, sharing experiences, and embracing innovative ideas.

He also called for sustained support for initiatives such as Robotics Clubs, describing them as vital in shaping a future where children are not only consumers of technology but also creators and leaders of innovation.

In a goodwill message, the Ondo State Coordinator of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Mrs. Olanike Adams, emphasized the critical role of teachers in shaping the future through innovation, dedication, and resilience.

She noted that developing localized e-learning content ensures teaching becomes more relevant to learners’ environments and cultural contexts, thereby improving comprehension and engagement.

Mrs. Adams further encouraged participants to leverage Learning Management Systems as effective tools for collaboration, tracking progress, and improving overall instructional delivery.

She urged teachers to remain committed to excellence, noting that their efforts are pivotal in building a smarter, more inclusive, and future-ready education system in the State.

Speaking on the significance of the programme, the Permanent Secretary of SUBEB, Princess Abike Bayo-Ilawole, emphasized that the integration of blended learning combining traditional classroom instruction with digital platforms will significantly improve engagement, flexibility, and accessibility for learners.

She noted that teachers will be empowered to adopt interactive teaching methods, utilize digital resources effectively, and track student progress through modern Learning Management Systems.

“This transformation is expected to not only enhance the teaching and learning experience but also build resilience within the education system, enabling it to adapt to evolving technological demands,” she added.

One of the facilitators of the training programme, Mr. Tobi Victor from Blass College, Akure, explained that the topics were carefully selected to equip teachers with practical skills needed to integrate technology into classroom instruction, improve student engagement, and enhance continuous assessment through digital platforms.

He stated that participants were exposed to key thematic areas such as Introduction to Learning Management Systems (LMS), development of localized digital content, blended learning strategies, virtual classroom management, and the use of ICT tools for effective lesson delivery.

Other core areas included e-learning pedagogy, interactive teaching methods, online assessment tools, content curation, and effective use of multimedia resources in teaching and learning.

He stressed that the training is a vital step toward building a future-ready education system where teachers are empowered to deliver innovative and learner-centred instruction.

A Smart School is a modern, technology-driven education system that integrates digital tools, smart classrooms, and automated processes to enhance teaching, learning, and administration.

It makes learning more interactive, engaging, and effective through the use of innovative technologies, while also simplifying school operations such as communication, record-keeping, management.

Ultimately, a Smart School prepares students with the digital skills and critical thinking abilities needed to thrive in today’s fast-evolving, technology-driven world, thereby creating a more connected and efficient education system.
