Ondo Assembly inspects water projects, commends government’s water supply initiative

The Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Water Resources has commenced an oversight inspection of ongoing water projects being executed by the State Government to assess their progress and ensure compliance with project specifications.

The inspection, led by the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Sulaiman Murtala, covered the new office complex and workshop building of the Ondo State Water Corporation, pipe lots at the Sijuade and Agbogbo areas, as well as the ongoing pipe-laying works under the Water Supply and Sanitation Project along Investment Road, Oda Road and the Akure South Secretariat axis, among other project sites.

Members of the committee include the House Leader, Hon. Olatunji Oshati; Chris Ayebusiwa; Afe Felix; and Tope Agbulu.

Speaking with journalists after inspecting some of the projects, Murtala said the committee was satisfied with the progress of work so far, noting that the oversight exercise was aimed at ensuring that government projects were properly executed for the benefit of the people.

He said, “My observation is that they are moving well. The job is going on fine, and everything I have seen so far, even though we are still going to complete this exercise tomorrow, I think I am satisfied with what they are doing.”

The Committee Chairman, however, urged the contractors handling the projects to engage more indigenes and residents of the state, stressing that more indigenous people should be carried along in the implementation of government projects.

Murtala commended the Ondo State Government for what he described as a laudable initiative aimed at extending potable water supply across communities in the state.

He said the successful completion of the project would have a positive impact on the health and general well-being of residents, adding that access to clean and safe water remained essential to improving the living conditions of the people.

“I commend the government of the state for this laudable initiative of being able to run water across the cities of Ondo State, which is going to improve and benefit the health of our people. I want to congratulate the governor for this milestone, and I believe that in no time it will be completed,” he said.

Also speaking, the General Manager of the Ondo State Water Corporation, Engineer Oluwaseun Omoge, explained that the ongoing water supply project was being executed by the Ondo State Government and was expected to be completed within 18 months.

Omoge said the project had effectively commenced and was progressing across various strategic locations.

He explained that the new construction at the Water Corporation was intended to provide a modern headquarters for the corporation, while the workshop and laboratory facilities would enhance its operational capacity.

He stated that the major objective of the project was to make potable water available to residents across the senatorial districts of Ondo State.

“The aim and objective of this project is to make potable water available for all the people in Ondo State. It cuts across about seven local government areas and is designed to benefit the people across the senatorial district,” he added.

The oversight inspection is expected to continue tomorrow as the House Committee visits additional project locations to assess the level of implementation.
