The Ondo State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to enacting people-oriented laws aimed at promoting good governance and accelerating development across the state.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, gave the assurance during a thanksgiving service held at the Chapel of Grace, Government House, Akure.
The service formed part of the Ondo State Government’s directive to ministries, departments and agencies to set aside a day for worship and thanksgiving at the Government House Chapel.
The event was attended by lawmakers, members of the Ondo State House of Assembly Service Commission and staff of the legislative arm, who gathered to appreciate God for His faithfulness and protection.
Speaking at the service, Oladiji expressed gratitude to God for preserving members of the 10th Assembly despite various challenges encountered over the years.
He noted that, like every institution and individual, the Assembly had faced different trials but remained thankful that all members were alive and united.
The Speaker stated that the Assembly had continued to discharge its constitutional responsibilities effectively through the passage of impactful laws, diligent oversight of government activities and regular engagement with constituents.
According to him, the legislature remains focused on supporting policies and programmes that will foster sustainable development and improve the welfare of the people of Ondo State.
He assured residents that the House would continue to enact laws that address the needs and aspirations of the citizenry while strengthening democratic governance in the state.
Oladiji also commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for initiating the worship programme, describing it as a commendable effort that encourages public servants to acknowledge God’s role in governance and development. He urged that the initiative be sustained.
In his remarks, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa praised the lawmakers and staff of the Assembly for their impressive turnout at the service. He described their presence as a demonstration of respect for constituted authority and a commitment to the spiritual growth of the state.
Earlier in his sermon titled “You and Your Ministry,” Pastor Oluwatobi Oke urged worshippers to regard their positions and responsibilities as opportunities to serve humanity and make meaningful contributions to society.
The cleric stressed the importance of integrity, dedication and selfless service, noting that every public office should be viewed as a platform for positive impact and nation-building.
The service concluded with special prayers for peace, progress and divine guidance for Ondo State and Nigeria as a whole.
