The Ondo State Farmers’ Congress has bestowed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa with the esteemed title of Grand Patron during a visit held in the cocoa conference hall, at the governor’s office on Tuesday.
The President of the Association, Mr Monilari Abayomi who led the team of other farmers to the visit commended Governor Aiyedatiwa efforts to support agriculture, stressing that farmers contribute significantly to the State’s economy.
He also solicited for continuous collaboration in addressing challenges such as modern farming technologies, market opportunities and infrastructural development in rural areas. “Together, we can cultivate a prosperous future for Ondo State, ensuring food security and sustainable agricultural practices”.
Monilari requested that Governor Aiyedatiwa use his powers and privileges to reinstate the cocoa development fund to Ondo State Farmers Congress for them to continue to play their role and responsibilities to the entire farming communities in the Sunshine State as it used to be.
He, however, affirmed that the union will take advantage of its number and influence to support the political ambition of Governor Aiyedatiwa before, during and after the forthcoming election.
In his reaction, Governor Aiyedatiwa appreciated the honor done him, adding that the title is a responsibility on his shoulders. He promised to defend the association’s course as their patron.
He also pledged to revolutionize agriculture by introducing modern-day techniques and facilitating access to loans for farmers as part of his administration’s efforts to boost agricultural productivity and ensure the prosperity of farming communities across the state.
“Agriculture serves as a cornerstone of our economy, and any administration that neglects the farming community risks its own downfall. Farming transcends individual interests, it is a collective endeavor that impacts us all. Reflecting on my own childhood experiences, I recall the weekly fishing outings mandated during my primary school years. Every Wednesday at noon, we were required to participate, with the class boasting the highest fish count receiving recognition. This activity instilled in us a profound appreciation for agriculture and underscored its significance”
Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his dedication to promoting agriculture as a key driver of economic development and pledged to work tirelessly to fulfill his promises to the farming communities of Ondo State.
“As Governor, I stand in solidarity with farmers, recognizing their pivotal role in our society. Our administration is committed to creating an enabling environment conducive to farming activities. We will explore various avenues to provide additional support to farmers, including expanding access to loans beyond the existing schemes currently available. By prioritizing the needs of farmers and fostering collaboration between government agencies and agricultural stakeholders, we aim to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure sustainable growth in this vital sector”.
Also in attendance were; Deputy Governor, Dr, Olayide Adelami, Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa and the Secretary to the state government, Tayo Oluwatuyi.
