Ondo Poets honour founder of Dorian Home, Bayode

Association of Ondo State Poets has honoured the founder of Dorian Orphanage Home, Dr. Tolu Bayode, with an award of excellence.

Bayode was bestowed with the award at an event organized to mark the 2023 World Poetry Day in Akure, the Ondo State Capital.

In recognition of her humanitarian gestures toward orphans and widows in Africa, the poets also wrote 6 poems to celebrate Bayode whom they described as a woman of substance.

While the presenting the award, the President of the Association, Hon. Goke Williams, described the humanitarian services being rendered by the orphanage home as matchless.

He further said that the seamless activities of the Dorian Home had engendered development of humanity and the society at large, adding that the need to honour the founder became imperative so as to encourage her to do more.

The elated awardee, in her response, said she was humbly received the award because she was a lover of poetry.

She said, “I am humble to receive this award because I love poems. The award is a big deal to me because it will spur me to do more to the society”.

Bayode, however, thanked the association for deeming it fit to confer her the award of excellence.

Other highlights of the event included: reading of citation of the recipient, musical interlude, testimonies from the Awardee’s families and friends, and inspection of the Dorian Home facilities by the Association of Ondo State Poets.
