The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission has refuted claims linking it to the leadership crisis rocking the Ondo State House of Assembly, insisting it has no role in the affairs of the legislature.
In a statement released on Friday, the commission said its relationship with the Assembly was limited to official engagements required by law and maintained that legislative decisions remained the sole responsibility of lawmakers.
The commission expressed concern over what it described as persistent attempts by some individuals and groups to associate OSOPADEC with the Assembly dispute through publications, videos and social media campaigns.
It warned bloggers, media organisations, commentators and other stakeholders to stop making what it called false associations capable of misleading the public and damaging the commission’s reputation.
OSOPADEC stated that its current leadership, headed by Chairman Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, had remained focused on delivering development projects despite facing repeated misinformation and what it described as coordinated attacks.
The commission said it would no longer tolerate campaigns of falsehood, blackmail or character assassination intended to discredit the institution or distract it from its statutory responsibilities.
It also urged journalists, online publishers and content creators to verify claims before publication, warning that anyone found spreading defamatory or fabricated information against the commission could face legal consequences.
OSOPADEC urged those involved in the House of Assembly crisis to resolve their differences through constitutional and lawful means, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability and the continued development of oil-producing communities in Ondo State.
