All is set for the 58th inaugural lecture of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA), Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, as Professor Dominic Odedeyi prepares to deliver a lecture focusing on the role of fish biology in advancing human development.
The lecture, titled “From Creation to Cultivation: Enhancing Fish Biology for Humanity,” is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the University’s Multipurpose Hall.
The event will commence at 2:00 p.m, with guests expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m.
In a statement, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Ceremonies, Adebisi Daramola, disclosed that the Vice-Chancellor, Olugbenga Ige, will preside over the lecture.
Professor Odedeyi, a renowned scholar in Fisheries and Aquaculture, is expected to interrogate critical issues in fish biology and highlight its significance to food security, sustainable aquaculture, and overall human advancement.
He began his academic journey at the University of Ilorin, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology in 1985. He later earned a Master’s degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from the Federal University of Technology, Akure in 1997, and completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Fisheries at the same institution in 2009.
Odedeyi joined AAUA in 2001 as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology and rose steadily through the ranks to become a Professor in 2018.
Over the years, he has held several administrative positions within the university, including Acting Head of Department, Head of Department, Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Director of the Centre for Pre-Degree Studies, Chairman of the Departmental Fish Farm Committee, and Coordinator for the Faculty of Science Entrepreneurship.
A prolific researcher, Professor Odedeyi has authored one book, contributed to three others, and has over 39 publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
He has also presented papers at various local and international conferences across Nigeria, Ghana, Malaysia, and Scotland.
Beyond his home institution, he has served as an External Examiner at the Federal University of Technology, Akure and the Federal University Oye-Ekiti.
He also previously worked as a Fisheries Officer with the Ondo State Agricultural Development Project, Akure, and currently serves as an External Assessor at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
In recognition of his contributions to academia and agriculture, he received the Ondo State Agricultural Development Project Certificate of Merit in 2001 and an international fellowship from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 2000.
Professor Odedeyi is a member of several professional bodies, including the Fisheries Society of Nigeria, the Fisheries Society of the British Isles, the Zoological Society of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Society for Animal Production.
