A Professor of Political Science and Public Administration at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Prof. Olawole Oluwasuji, is set to lead discussions on Nigeria’s economic challenges as he delivers the institution’s 65th inaugural lecture on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
The lecture, titled “Nigeria’s Fragile Economy: Removing the Contours and Roadblocks to Sustainable Development,” will focus on the persistent challenges confronting the nation’s economy and the measures required to achieve sustainable growth and development.
A specialist in Political Economy and Development Studies, Prof. Oluwasuji is expected to examine issues such as policy inconsistency, institutional deficiencies, and other structural factors that have continued to hinder Nigeria’s development. He will also offer practical recommendations for building a more resilient and inclusive economy.
Prof. Oluwasuji earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the then Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti, now Ekiti State University, in 1997. He later obtained a Master of Science degree in Political Science with specialization in Public Administration from the University of Ibadan in 2002 before completing a PhD in Political Science, with a focus on Political Economy and Development Studies, at Kogi State University, Anyigba, in 2017.
He joined AAUA in 2003 as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Public Administration and rose through the ranks to attain the position of Professor in 2024.
Over the years, he has contributed significantly to the growth and development of the university through various administrative and academic roles. These include serving as Acting Head of the Department of Public Administration, Chairman of the Faculty of Administration and Management Sciences Project Committee, Chairman of the Faculty of Education Investigation Panel on Examination Misconduct, and Postgraduate School Representative for his faculty.
An accomplished scholar, Prof. Oluwasuji has co-authored two books, published 32 journal articles, and contributed chapters to 13 edited volumes. His research interests span political economy, governance, public sector reforms, and sustainable development.
He has also participated actively in several local and international academic conferences. Among his notable engagements was the presentation of a paper at the Second Outstanding African Thinkers Conference in Abomey-Calavi, Republic of Benin, where his contribution attracted commendation from fellow scholars.
Beyond AAUA, he has served as a Postgraduate External Examiner at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, and held visiting academic appointments at Achievers University, Owo, Landmark University, Omu-Aran, and Precious Cornerstone University, Ibadan.
Prof. Oluwasuji is a member of the National Association of Political Science (NAPS) and a facilitator with the Association of Public Administration Researchers (ASPAR), where he mentors young scholars and contributes to policy discussions.
According to a statement issued by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adebisi Daramola, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, will preside over the event.
The lecture will take place at the University Multipurpose Hall, with guests expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m. and proceedings commencing at 2:00 p.m.
