The Management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), congratulates the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on his recognition by the Federal Ministry of Education with the Special Recognition Award for Best Governor in Education in Nigeria.

The award was presented at the 2026 World Teachers’ Day Commemoration held at Eagle Square, Abuja, on Monday, October 5, 2026.

In a congratulatory message, the Rector, Engr. Dr Olorunwa Sunday Lawson, described the recognition as a strategic acknowledgement of the Governor’s commitment to educational development and human capital advancement in Ondo State.

Dr Lawson particularly expressed appreciation for the Governor’s support for RUGIPO since assuming office, noting that his administration’s interventions have contributed to addressing longstanding institutional challenges, improving staff welfare and strengthening the Polytechnic’s capacity to fulfil its academic mandate.

Among the notable interventions are the defrayment of 14 months’ salary arrears, a substantial increase in the Polytechnic’s monthly subvention, the implementation of the New National Minimum Wage, and the implementation of the Consolidated Academic Tool Allowance (CATA) and the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA).

The Governor has also supported programme accreditation and other initiatives aimed at strengthening academic standards and institutional development.

The Rector further acknowledged the Governor’s support for the Polytechnic’s 12th–23rd combined convocation ceremony, held in October 2025, which ended a 12-year hiatus in the institution’s convocation exercises.

According to Dr Lawson, these interventions underscore the importance of sustained government support in promoting institutional stability, enhancing staff welfare and creating an enabling environment for teaching, learning and research.

He noted that the Governor’s recognition was particularly significant for tertiary institutions, including polytechnics, which play a strategic role in producing the technical and professional manpower required to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, industrial development and economic growth.

The Rector reaffirmed RUGIPO’s commitment to complementing the state government’s development agenda through quality technical and vocational education, practical skills acquisition, innovation and the production of competent graduates equipped to contribute meaningfully to Ondo State and the wider economy.

He expressed the hope that the national recognition would further encourage sustained investment in education at all levels, particularly in strengthening tertiary institutions as strategic partners in human capital development.

Ologunwa appreciates Governor Aiyedatiwa’s support for the Polytechnic and reaffirms its commitment to constructive collaboration with the state government in advancing the institution’s academic mission and contributing to the educational and economic development of Ondo State.

“Congratulations, Your Excellency, on this national honour. RUGIPO appreciates your continued support and looks forward to sustained progress in the development of the Polytechnic and other levels of education across Ondo State”, he concluded.
