Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, has renewed its focus on administrative excellence with the revival of its Registry Workshop, held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the 800-Seater Auditorium.
The workshop, organised by the Registry under the leadership of the Acting Registrar, Mr. O. M. Oloye, was designed for officers in the Executive Officer (Administration) and Registrar cadres and was themed “Towards Staff Optimal Performance in Contemporary Administration in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.”
Declaring the workshop open on behalf of the Acting Rector, Engr. Dr. Olorunwa Sunday Lawson, the Chairman, Committee of Deans, Mr. S. V. Omosuli, described the programme as a timely capacity-building initiative. He urged administrative officers to embrace professionalism, ICT competence, effective communication, accountability and continuous learning, noting that their roles are critical to the effective running of the Polytechnic.
Earlier, the Acting Registrar said the workshop fulfilled a commitment he made to senior Registry staff on February 17, 2026, to revive the long-abandoned programme. Oloye described the Registry as the administrative hub of the institution and stressed the importance of regular training and retraining to enhance staff performance and service delivery.
The first paper, “Minutes Writing, Record Keeping and Human Relations in Tertiary Institutions,” was prepared by the Registrar, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Mrs. Akintola Folasade Bimbo, and presented by Mrs. Faluyi Mary Opeyemi, Deputy Registrar, Academic Affairs.
The presentation emphasised accuracy, objectivity and professionalism in minutes writing, stressing that properly prepared minutes preserve institutional decisions and support accountability and continuity. It also highlighted systematic records management, confidentiality, information security and the need to embrace digital tools for efficient storage and retrieval of institutional records.
On human relations, the paper stressed effective communication, courtesy, empathy, patience, teamwork and emotional intelligence, noting that Registry personnel interact with a wide range of stakeholders and must therefore combine technical competence with strong interpersonal skills.
The second paper, “Administrative Functions and Office Management: Pathways to Staff Optimal Performance in Contemporary Tertiary Institution Administration,” was delivered by the Immediate Past Registrar of the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Mr. Gabriel Adeyemi Awe.
Awe emphasised effective planning, coordination, records management, ICT adoption, staff development, communication and a conducive work environment as important factors in improving administrative performance. He also advocated continuous, role-based training, stronger records-management systems, appropriate digital transformation and supportive leadership.
The workshop reaffirmed Management’s commitment to human capital development and the continuous improvement of administrative service delivery at RUGIPO.
