Vice President Kashim Shettima, governors and traditional rulers on Monday joined family members, associates and admirers in Akure, Ondo State, to celebrate the 100th birthday of Afenifere leader, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti.

Speakers at the occasion described Pa Fasoranti as a symbol of principled leadership whose influence has remained significant across generations and political divides.

Delivering President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s message, Shettima said the centenarian’s life embodies sacrifice, courage and unwavering commitment to justice, noting that Pa Fasoranti has consistently defended the oppressed and promoted national unity.

He described the elder statesman as one of the few Nigerians whose lifetime reflects the country’s historical journey from the colonial era through independence, military rule and democratic governance.

According to the Vice President, Pa Fasoranti’s enduring relevance stems from his steadfast adherence to principle and his refusal to compromise on issues affecting the people.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, in his tribute, described the Afenifere leader as a moral authority and living institution whose century-long life has become a reference point for integrity and selfless leadership.

Governor Aiyedatiwa said the celebration was not only about longevity but also about honouring values that have shaped public life and inspired younger generations.

He noted that Pa Fasoranti’s leadership has remained rooted in truth, discipline and service despite changing political realities over the decades.

The governor urged Nigerians, particularly youths, to emulate the elder statesman’s virtues of honesty, humility and commitment to humanity.

Also paying tribute, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, described the centenarian as an icon whose life continues to command widespread admiration and respect across the country.

Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, said Pa Fasoranti’s life remains a shining example of dignity, resilience and principled leadership.

Mimiko added that the elder statesman’s humility and simplicity have continued to distinguish him even at the height of his influence in national affairs.
