Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), has resumed normal academic and other activities following the suspension of industrial action by university unions.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Tomola Obamuyi, commended the Visitor to the University and Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for providing financial support that contributed to the restoration of normalcy on the campus.
Obamuyi, who spoke in his office on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, expressed satisfaction with the return of students and staff to the campus, noting that the development would enable the university to refocus on its core academic responsibilities.
The Vice Chancellor recalled that the state government provided over N1 billion as a special bailout to offset salary arrears, while also releasing funds required for the implementation of agreements reached between the Federal Government and university-based unions.
He said the interventions had contributed to the resolution of the issues that led to the industrial action and the subsequent return of normal academic activities.
According to him, the gestures demonstrated the importance the governor attached to education, human capital development and the future of young people in Ondo State.
Obamuyi said with the resolution of the union agitations, the university would now be able to concentrate fully on its core mandates of manpower development, research and the production of globally competitive graduates.
He assured that the institution would continue to work towards providing an enabling environment for teaching, learning and research.
A tour of the university campus showed that students were returning in large numbers, with academic and non-teaching staff also on ground to attend to them.
In a circular signed by the Registrar of the university, Dr. Olubunmi Babalola, students were informed of the suspension of the industrial action and the commencement of the second semester examinations.
The examinations are scheduled to begin on October 19, 2026.
