This Lucky Aiyedatiwa: most battered, vilified, yet soaring in Our Ease

In politics, the higher a tree grows, the stronger the winds that test its branches. For Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the Sunshine State, the political winds have not merely blown, they have sometimes appeared determined to uproot the tree. Yet, somehow, the tree keeps growing, flourishing.

Since his emergence at the helm of Ondo State, Aiyedatiwa has operated under an unusually intense political microscope. He has faced criticisms, controversies, internal party disputes and accusations from different political parties. But beneath the noise lies a more consequential question: what is happening on the ground?
That is where the story becomes interesting.

Aiyedatiwa, in his own unique character, has chosen not to answer every political provocation with equal measure of political noise. Instead, his administration has continued to point to infrastructure, education, healthcare, water supply, youths entrepreneur development, regular payment of gratuity (and systematically offsetting backlog of arrears), and other areas of public investment as evidence of its governing direction.

My candid point is that this administration should be judged by projects and measurable interventions in critical areas of public interests rather than unnecessary and diversionary political rhetoric.

I do not suggest or advocate that every criticism of the government should be dismissed. No. In a democracy, criticism is legitimate and necessary. But there’s another side to democratic accountability: facts must be separated from political narratives.

This is where Aiyedatiwa’s political journey becomes particularly intriguing. The Governor has consistently endured political storms that could easily have consumed a less resilient, focused and determined administration.

From intra-party disagreements to allegations surrounding party primaries and accusation of political interference, the challenges have been intense. Yet, the OUR EASE administration has continued to function with vigour, pursue projects and maintain its political structure.

His political style has increasingly been associated with calmness, persistence and an emphasis on engagement across the grassroots.

Governor Aiyedatiwa’s political story is not simply about a governor who has been criticised, but about a governor operating in an environment where political contestation have been usually tense, while attempting, vigorously, to keep the machinery of government moving.

The paradox is striking: *the more he is battered, the more determined his political ascent appears to become*.

The story of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa will well be remembered not for how many stones were thrown at him, but for how high he continued to rise despite them.
