The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) says the penchant of INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan to disobey Court orders shall likely affect the 2027 general elections time table.
The party also said that it is regrettable that a professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria does not see anything wrong in disobeying court orders no matter the interest he may be protecting.
This is contained in a statement by the NNPP Secretary General, Comrade Ogini Olaposi on Thursday in Lagos.
“A contempt proceeding is hanging on Amupitan’s neck before Justice Bello Kawu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court Abuja.
“Recall that on Wednesday, May 13, Amupitan who was served with forms 48 , 49 and notice of hearing to appear before the FCT high court, did not show up, instead, he sent one Isa from INEC litigation department as representative.
“When his representative was asked why the chairman of INEC have decided to disobey court orders, he said it was due to administrative procedures in the commission to attend issues just on time .
Justice kawu again asked the counsel to tell Amupitan that between administrative procedures and compelling order of court which one is superior and must be obeyed or attended to first, he kept apologising.
“The court reminded Isa that there is a record and proof of service of form 48,49 and notice of hearing in the court file as evidenced and adjourned the matter to May 19 2026 to ensure fair hearing for Amupitan.”
Olaposi alleged that that Kwankwaso have been boasting that he will render NNPP useless as long as he was not allowed to use the party with Peter Obi for the 2027 general elections, claiming that he made the NNP popular.
“It is becoming likely that Amupitan may be the instrument of Kwankwaso to disadvantage the NNPP in the 2027 general elections technically
“The Abia State high court, the FCT high court and court of Appeal Owerri have confirmed NNPP under the leadership of the Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees, Dr Aniebonam as the authentic leader and ordered the commission to restore the original Logo of the party and upload the Dr Agbo Major led National Working Committee of the party to its server.
“We still wonder why the INEC chairman is acting to the contrary even when Kwankwaso, Buba Galadima, Dr Ahmed Ajuji and Barr Ladipo Johnson etc are obviously in a new party.
“The FCT high court gave a compelling order of 72hrs to upload NNPP to the INEC server and file an affidavit of compliance within 14 days, but two months after, Amupitan has remained adamant.”
“At the moment, the INEC time table is against NNPP relevance for the 2027 general elections. What happens if the court orders INEC to readjust its time table to accommodate NNPP’s participation, time shall tell. ” Olaposi added.
