Awude donates 1m to upgrade Oyemekun grammar school lawn tennis court

Former Commissioner in Ondo State, Hon. Dayo Awude, has donated N1 million towards the upgrading of the lawn tennis court at Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, as part of efforts to promote sports and youth development in the community.

Awude made the donation on Wednesday during a visit to the school, where he presented the funds for the rehabilitation and enhancement of the facility.

The former commissioner said the intervention was not limited to the school, but was intended to contribute to the social and sporting development of the wider Akure community.

He explained that although he was not an alumnus of Oyemekun Grammar School, his decision to support the project was motivated by his commitment to community service and the belief that individuals should contribute to the development of their communities whenever they have the opportunity.

According to him, people do not have to wait until they have everything before giving back to society, stressing that everyone has something meaningful to contribute.

Awude recalled his contributions to education and youth development during his years in public service, including his activities at Adekunle Ajasin University and his tenure as Chairman of the Ondo State Scholarship Board.

He urged successful individuals, community leaders and other well-meaning citizens to embrace the culture of giving back, particularly in areas that directly affect young people.

Awude also encouraged stakeholders to support initiatives in education, sports and youth development, noting that the responsibility for community development should not rest solely on government.

Receiving the donation, the Principal of Oyemekun Grammar School, Akoni John Adeniyi Oluyide, commended Awude for the gesture, describing it as an example of responsible citizenship and commitment to the preservation of the school’s legacy.

Oluyide said the upgraded lawn tennis court would provide a better sporting environment for students and could also serve as a recreational facility for members of the Akure community.

He described Awude as a worthy son of Akure whose contributions to the development of the community had continued to attract positive attention.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Taiwo Gold expressed appreciation to Awude for the donation and his other contributions to community development.

He described the intervention as an investment in the future of young people and expressed optimism that the upgraded facility would become a lasting legacy of service to the people of Akure.
