Endeavor To Run Open Door Administration — ODHA Tells Council Chairmen

Ondo State House of Assembly has charged all the Local Government Chairmen across the State to run an open door administration to further entrenched good governance at the grassroots.

The Leadership of the House led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun gave the charge in its resolution during an interface with the Council Chairmen at the assembly complex in Akure.

According to the House, running an open door administration by carrying along the Councilors will ensure probity, accountability and transparency in their financial transactions.

It directed that henceforth, all the Chairmen should involve their Councilors in all the official activities in their various Local Governments, noting that if need arises, Committees can be inaugurated by the Chairmen to clear doubts on some given areas.

In the resolution,it stated that Chairmen of all the Local Governments should organise seminars between the two arms of Government with a view to improve on knowledge of good Legislative practices while regular briefings on State of Affairs by the Chairmen should be encouraged in all the Local Governments of the State.

That, the Councilors should be encouraged by the Council Chairmen to enacts Bye-Laws that will improve the Revenue generations in their various Councils adding that peace should be maintained between all the executive members and the Councilors in all the eighteen Councils of the State.

That, all Secretaries in the eighteen Local Governments are advised to rise up to their responsibilities by acting as fulcrum for positive developments.

The Ministry of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs was encouraged to create avenue that will improve the working relationship between the eighteen Local Governments and the State House of Assembly.

That the House will not hesitate to impose sanctions considered necessary to restore peace and good governance in any local government in the State if the need arises.

The Clerk of the House, Jaiyeola Benjamin was directed to commit the resolution to the Governor of the State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and all the Local government Chairmen.

In the resolution,the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Chairman of local government Service Commission and all Joint Account Committee (JAC) members are to meet with the leadership of the State House of Assembly on 7th February, 2023 by 10:00 am.

Also in attendance were the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro and the Chairman Civil Service Commission, Mr Femi Idris.
