Improve on your IGR mechanisms- Odu tells ministries, agencies

The Secretary to the Ondo State Government,( SSG) Princess Catherine Oladunni Odu, has called on government ministries and agencies to put in place necessary mechanisms to improve their internally generated revenue( IGR).

Odu re- assured ministries, extra-ministerial departments and agencies of Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s continued support to the actualization of their ministerial mandate.

The SSG made the call in Akure while playing host to the state Commissioner for Regional Integration and Diaspora Relations, Prince Boye Ologbese, and his management team.

According to her, being able to look inward to seek alternative ways to boost revenue generation is germane to the state governor and the state at large.

Odu said she was impressed with the efforts of the commissioner to improve upon activities of the ministry despite limited resources.

She solicited continued effort at keeping up with the state’s reform initiative, saying it would lead the state to gain economic boom in the nearest future if properly harnessed.

Earlier, Ologbese said that in line with the state governor’s vision, he was striving to change the narrative of the ministry from being over dependent on monthly subvention from the state government to a business-driven one as a means to increase the IGR of the state.

“As such, the ministry is working on a project with Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission and Nigerians In Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) which has to do with designing Ondo State as a business hub of the entire SouthWest”

“ Now that technology is fast moving ahead of our crude oil, we must be able to look beyond our means without waiting on the Federal Government before embarking on major projects, which would sustain us in the nearest future if properly harnessed. Self reliance is very crucial and critical at this point in time for the state,” he said.

The commissioner stated that the ministry had been in and out of discussions with its parent ministry, DAWN commission, in Ibadan to know the kind of projects to embark on which sister states like Ekiti, Osun, Oyo and Lagos, could benefit from so as to further strengthen the SouthWest region for self reliance.
