The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and the National Hydrographic Agency have intensified efforts to strengthen maritime safety through the promotion and adoption of locally developed nautical charts and hydrographic communication tools.
This was the focus of discussions during a working visit by the Hydrographer of the Nation, Rear Admiral Olumide Fadahunsi, to the management of NIMASA.
During the meeting, both agencies explored areas of collaboration aimed at enhancing hydrographic operations and improving navigational safety within Nigeria’s maritime domain.
Fadahunsi commended the management of NIMASA for its continued commitment to maritime safety, security and sectoral development, stressing the importance of indigenous hydrographic solutions in advancing safe navigation and protecting the nation’s waterways.
He noted that increased patronage of locally produced nautical charts and hydrographic tools would not only improve operational efficiency but also strengthen Nigeria’s maritime capacity.
The hydrographer also emphasised the need for stronger synergy among relevant maritime stakeholders to ensure sustainable growth and international best practices in the sector.
NIMASA management, in its response, reaffirmed the agency’s readiness to collaborate with the National Hydrographic Agency in areas that would enhance safety standards and support the growth of the maritime industry.
The agency maintained that the partnership aligned with its mandate of promoting safe and secure shipping operations in Nigerian waters.
