The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has renewed its strategic collaboration with the World Maritime University (WMU), Malmö, Sweden, signing a four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s maritime human capital and institutional capabilities.
At the MoU signing ceremony, NIMASA Director-General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, described the partnership as a key component of the agency’s human capital development framework and a strategic investment in the country’s maritime future.
Mobereola highlighted that the collaboration has already contributed significantly to capacity building within the Nigerian maritime sector, enhancing technical skills, knowledge transfer, and institutional efficiency.
He added that the renewed agreement would further expand training opportunities for maritime professionals, improve regulatory standards, and support research initiatives aligned with global best practices.
The WMU partnership, according to the NIMASA chief, reflects the agency’s commitment to developing a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of Nigeria’s growing maritime industry.
“This initiative ensures that our workforce remains competitive internationally while supporting the nation’s economic growth through a robust and efficient maritime sector,” Mobereola stated.
The renewed MoU also provides for joint research programs, workshops, and capacity-building initiatives designed to equip Nigerian maritime institutions with the knowledge and tools needed to operate at global standards.
