The President of the Ndigboamaka Progressive Markets Association (NPMA), Hon. Conrade Chinedu Ukatu (FCISM), has commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Adewale Adeniyi, for his efforts in modernising operations at the Nigeria Customs Service.
Ukatu applauded Adeniyi for automating the issuance of customs licenses and permits and speeding up cargo clearance processes, describing the reforms as a “milestone that will reduce delays, improve efficiency, and boost trade in the maritime sector.”
According to the NPMA president, leveraging technology in customs operations demonstrates visionary leadership and is expected to enhance transparency while reducing human interaction and procedural bottlenecks.
“We appreciate your commitment to simplifying procedures, minimising human interface, and enhancing security in the clearance process,” Ukatu said. “Your initiatives will positively impact the economy and improve the ease of doing business in Nigeria.”
In the same statement, Ukatu appealed to the Customs chief to reconsider the ongoing 4 percent free-on-board charge on imported goods, as well as what he described as arbitrary increases on other port-related fees.
He called for a more business-friendly approach to charges imposed on cleared cargoes, stressing that fairer policies would encourage growth and attract investment in the sector.
Ukatu added that the NPMA looks forward to continued collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service to further develop and modernise the maritime industry.
