Ondo Assembly summons OSOPADEC over alleged corruption

The Ondo State House of Assembly has summoned the management of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) over allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement.

The move, according to the lawmakers, followed petitions and concerns raised by stakeholders, community leaders and members of the public calling for urgent legislative intervention.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, disclosed this while speaking with journalists after plenary, noting that the action was in line with Section 128(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the Assembly to investigate and summon individuals, as well as demand the production of relevant documents.

He stressed that the House would not stand by while agencies responsible for public welfare are accused of mismanagement.

Earlier, Chairman of the House Committee on OSOPADEC, Oluwatoyin Allen, said the exercise was aimed at ensuring that the commission fulfills its mandate and does not deviate from its core objectives.

He urged the commission’s management to cooperate fully with the Assembly by providing all necessary information to facilitate a thorough investigation.

The Speaker, however, assured residents, particularly those in oil-producing communities, that the process would be transparent, unbiased and comprehensive, with the ultimate goal of promoting accountability and restoring public confidence in the commission.
