The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof. Tomola Obamuyi, has assured staff and students of measurable progress in infrastructure development, academic advancement, and general campus improvement, saying his administration has commenced efforts to reposition every sector of the University.
He gave this assurance on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, during an interview with the Information, Protocol, and Public Relations Unit at the end of a two-day inspection of facilities across the campus.
Drawing on his background as a Professor of Finance, he assured the University community that innovative and sustainable funding strategies would be adopted to support infrastructure maintenance and development.
Prof. Obamuyi explained that his administration’s priorities include welfare of staff and students, capacity building, and the maintenance and optimal utilization of existing infrastructure.
He, however, stressed that every department has a role to play in achieving these objectives.
Emphasizing the importance of collaboration, the Vice Chancellor said he had met with Principal Officers, Heads of Department, and other stakeholders to chart a course for the University’s development.
The Vice Chancellor described the overall state of infrastructure as encouraging, but stressed that significant improvements would be made to enhance the University’s physical development.
He recalled his earlier assertion that the period before assuming office was one of preparation, adding that his administration is now focused on providing practical solutions to the institution’s challenges.
He said, “Having gone round, my impressions are good, but we need to improve on what we have on the ground. As I mentioned some time ago, my leaving the University was a period of preparation, and my coming is the solution to the challenges that we have here.”
Assessing the quality of facilities inherited from previous administrations, Prof. Obamuyi commended his predecessors for their contributions to the growth of the institution.
He noted that while considerable progress had been made over the years, his administration was determined to build on the existing achievements and elevate the University to greater heights.
The Vice Chancellor also underscored the importance of institutionalising a sustainable maintenance culture, stressing that maintenance should form an integral part of every infrastructure project from inception.
According to him, funds should not be exhausted solely on construction, but a designated percentage should always be reserved for the upkeep of facilities to ensure their durability.
On concerns over financing maintenance activities, Prof. Obamuyi expressed confidence in his administration’s capacity to mobilise the needed resources.
Highlighting his immediate priorities after the inspection, the Vice Chancellor disclosed that he had already issued directives to the relevant units responsible for identified areas of concern and had set clear deadlines for execution.
He added that his leadership style places strong emphasis on monitoring implementation to ensure that assigned tasks are completed promptly.
Prof. Obamuyi assured, “I have directed all concerned units and I have given them deadlines. When I give instructions, I monitor them. We are going to be seeing some changes very soon.”
The inspection tour formed part of the Vice Chancellor’s efforts to obtain first-hand assessment of the University’s physical infrastructure and operational environment as he begins his administration, with stakeholders expressing optimism that the exercise will usher in a new phase of infrastructure renewal and improved service delivery across the institution.
